This Privacy Policy describes how “Aaj Kay?” (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
When you use “Aaj Kay?”, you may provide the following information:

- Recipe Data: Recipe titles, ingredients, instructions, categories, and other recipe-related content you create
- User-Generated Content: Notes, custom ingredient lists, and other content you add to recipes
Photo Library Access
“Aaj Kay?” requests access to your photo library solely for the purpose of allowing you to select a profile photo. When you choose to add or change your profile photo:
- You grant permission to access your photo library
- You select a photo from your library
- The selected photo is stored locally on your device
- We only access the specific photo you choose; we do not scan or access your entire photo library
- You can change or remove your profile photo at any time
Important: Photo library access is entirely optional. You can use the app without adding a profile photo.
“Aaj Kay?” does NOT collect any information automatically. We do not use analytics, tracking, cookies, or any other automatic data collection methods.
Local Storage Only
All data you create in “Aaj Kay?” is stored exclusively on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This includes:
- All recipes you create or import
- Recipe categories and organization
- User profile information (name, profile photo)
- App preferences and settings
- Favorite recipes and other personalization
We do not have access to your data. Your information never leaves your device except when you explicitly choose to export and share recipes.
Profile Photos
Profile photos you select are:
- Stored locally on your device only
- Compressed to reduce storage space
- Never uploaded to any server
- Never included in recipe exports - When you export and share recipes, your profile photo is NOT included (only your display name is shared)
- Completely under your control (you can change or remove them at any time)
iCloud Storage
“Aaj Kay?” does NOT automatically sync your data to iCloud or any cloud service. Your data remains entirely on your local device.
Note: Your profile photo is stored locally in app storage, separate from your device’s photo library.
Your information is used solely for the following purposes:
- App Functionality: To provide recipe management features within the app
- Personalization: To display your name and profile photo, and organize your content according to your preferences
- Family Sharing: To identify recipe authors when you manually share recipes with family members via file export
- Profile Display: To show your profile photo in the app interface for a personalized experience
Data Sharing and Disclosure
Manual Recipe Sharing
You may choose to export and share recipes with others. When you do this:
- Recipe data is exported to a file that you control
- Exported recipes include your display name (or family name if in family mode) to identify the recipe author
- Your profile photo is NOT included in exports - It remains private on your device
- You decide who receives the exported file
- We have no access to or control over exported files once you share them
No Third-Party Sharing
We do NOT:
- Share your data with third parties
- Sell your data
- Use your data for advertising
- Send your data to external servers
- Use analytics or tracking services
Data Security
Your data security is important to us:
- All data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s secure SwiftData framework
- We rely on your device’s built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, etc.)
- No data transmission to external servers means no risk of data breaches from our end
- Only you have access to your data through your device
Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: You can view all your data within the app at any time
- Modification: You can edit or update any information you’ve entered, including changing or removing your profile photo
- Deletion: You can delete individual recipes, categories, or all data by deleting the app from your device
- Export: You can export your recipes at any time to back them up or share them
- Photo Library Permission: You can revoke photo library access at any time through your device Settings app (Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > “Aaj Kay?”)
Children’s Privacy
“Aaj Kay?” does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since all data is stored locally and we have no access to it, we cannot determine the age of our users. Parents and guardians should supervise their children’s use of the app.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes:
- We will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
- If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or app store listing
- Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
Data Retention
Your data remains on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. To delete all data:
- Delete all content within the app, or
- Delete the app from your device
Once deleted from your device, your data cannot be recovered (unless you have created your own backups via export).
International Users
“Aaj Kay?” stores all data locally on your device, regardless of your location. We do not transfer data internationally because we do not collect or transmit your data.
